I got this reel on a work trad e fro m a friend of mine who grew up in upstate NY. I t had belonged to his uncle who fished in the catskil l region. it is a very nice reel with it's a l umin u m spool release cover. Drag knob and ratchet plate.The round line guard. Turned pillars and amber color ed hand le are the details that make the se early pfluegers so collectable. I ncluded is the box it came in. The box is in remarkable condition with no splits/ tears I will accept returns under the usual terms so you can bid with confidence stamped on the frame. I think this reel is probably a trade reel manufactured by American Net& Twine just before the turn of the last century-it bears all the indications. But is unmarked, so that's just a guess; you can look at the photos, and make up your own mind. It has a strong, loud constant click, will display nicely, and is in excellent mechanical condition. Up for bid is one vintage PORTAGE'ATLAS' Nickel Plated Trout/Fly Reel with Clicker. Drag Control, 2:1 Geared Multiplier, and 60 yard line capacity. The PORTAGE was manufactured by Pflueger. The reel has nickel plating over brass. The plating is good condition with some light surface scratches from normal use(see photos) There is a clicker controlled by a slide button on the back plate and adjustable drag control through a second slide button on the rear plate. It is in good working condition. Although it seems a little sluggish when the clicker is engaged. The handle appears to have a ivory colored wood knob. On the handle side face plate it is marked"PORTAGE" above a trade mark logo of a fish jumping at sunrise. Then"TRADE MARK" written below, and"ATLAS, MADE ... moreIN U.S.A. below. Very good condition small L.W. Holmes fly fishing reel in original labeled box. Reel made by Leslie W. Holmes in Oronoque(Stratford) Conn. Sometime after WWII and before he died around 1952. Reel favors RHW but works fine as a Left-hand wind reel. It's a simple click and pawl drag and the reel is in great fishable condition. Up for bid is one Vintage Hard Rubber& Nickel Plated Brass or German Silver Fly Reel with 2:1 Multiplier. This reel is not marked as to manufacturer. This reel has a hard rubber front and rear body with metal plates attached to the faces. The spool. Pillars, body plates, and foot appeared to be German Silver, but they could be nickel plated brass in very good condition. I see no brass on these parts, but the rear bearing cap does show a small amount of brass, and the screws and rivets show brass. The handle knob appears to be plastic. The pillars are very unique with each one having a pattern wrapping around from end to end. There is a clicker controlled by a slide button on the rear plate. It is in good working condition and good overall condition with the exception of some scratches ... moreon the top rim and one on the rear body of the hard rubber. Up for auction is this older(circa 1980) Hardy Bros 3 5/8 inch# 8/9 multiplier fly reel in decent condition throughout retaining approximately 98% of the grey finish on the frame. The spare frame is also in decent condition other than some rubs here and there(see pics) Engraved on the back of the reel is“Marquis# 8/9” and“Made By Hardy Bros Ltd England” The multiplying unit has a quick drum release latch and a single ebonite handle mounted to it. This auction is for a lot of 3 early. Raised pillar, skeleton fly reels from the early 1900's. These is part of a lot of fly fishing gear that I inherited from my father, a life-long fisherman. My father inherited a number of old fishing items as a young man in the late 1950's or early 1960's and he never threw anything fishing-related away. All 3 of these reels are fully functional, have no play in the rivets and I'm quite confident that they could be fished with if one were inclined to do so. Either way, they would be a great addition to a collection of antique fly-fishing gear. My father had a display case hanging on the wall of his"fishing room" and these reels were part of the display. First up is a Pflueger Progress reel. It appears to be made of brass with ... morea chromed spool and black wood handle. The reel body appears to have been colored either black or brown. Some of this color has been worn away-see photos. The spool is 2.125" in diameter. It is marked on the top of the seat. PFLUEGER TRADE(some sort of symbol I can't make out) MARK PROGRESS MADE IN U.S.A. And the number"60" underneath the seat. It works great, has a nice clicking sound and spins freely when the ratcheting mechanism is disengaged. There is no line on this reel. Next up is a Skilton's reel. It also appears to be made of brass that had once been black. There is little evidence of the black color except around the counter weight and on the upper part of the reel seat. It has a black wooden handle. The only markings are on the back of the body. SKILTON'S FISHING TACKLE. T.S. Skilton& Sons Fishing Tackle was a well-known supplier of fly-fishing gear in Connecticut starting in 1895. The spool is 2.25" in diameter and is wound with line and a green colored backing. You are bidding on a vintage Hardy St. John 3 7/8" Left Hand Wind Salmon fly reel. Retaining most of it's gray finish, in remarkably good condition, well maintained. It has a full length grooved brass foot, perforated spool, 2 screw spool release latch, a rim tension/drag adjustment knob, engraved on the rear with the maker's name and make and sixe of the reel. The reel appears to have had little use. It is set for Left Hand Wind; however, a simple reversal of the spring and clicker inside will reverse it the other way.The spool has a 2 screw spool latch release, with a brown ebonite crank handle. Turning the crank handle shows a smooth action. The permanent click drag must"scream" with a substantial salmon tugging at the fly.
