This is an original. Vintage box of Winchester Store 3171 Divided Wing Coachman Trout Flies. There are 16 unused dry flies in the box. The box was shipped with 16 flies so a few have been added. The box is mint. About as good as you could expect for such a collectible that is 80 years or more in age. The best the owner has ever seen. The end label is easily readable with the Winchester logo and fly pattern printed there. A picture of the Fly's listing in the 1926/27 Winchester Store catalog is shown. Whether you collect items made by Allcocks. Fly cases or the more unusual items of Fishing Tackle this may well be up your street. It is a small Fly case by Allcocks and is named the Smithson. Allcocks applied to Patent this design and this case carries the Provisional Petent No 10320 and what I presume to be Allcocks part number 9043. Another factor which makes this particular type of case rare is the material used in the construction. The case is made of pressed tin which was not treated to prevent rust. The case was then covered with a leatherette cloth which has a synthetic coating. The inside of the lid had the paper Allcocks Trade Label glued in and the base of cpurse holds the patented Hook Tray. Needless to say the tins suffered badly from rust especially when considering their exposure ... moreto damp and water by the very nature of their use. The special design involves the system used to carry the flies. The Hook Tray consists of a plated metal tray which has 4 raised channels or troughs. The upper side of these channels carries a special putty like material into which the hook points were set holding them securely. The label in the lid proclaims: The substance in which the Hooks are inserted is an Everlasting Plastic Material. After much use the form will be restored if a little pressure is applied with the fingers" The case measures 4" x 2" x 3/4" It is in excellent condition.

I have called this a mid sized Fly case because it sit between the Pocket size and Vest Pocket size cases by Wheatley. This one measures 4 3/4" x 3 1/2" and has different sized clips on either side of the interior. The outer is anodised and is in pretty good order as is the interior. I hope the picture will give a good rendition of the flies contained in this case. They look to be in very good condition and useable. There are about 72 in total.

1913 Common Sense fly book with fishing flies and lures This is a very old looking leather case containing a 1913 Common Sense fly book with some very old looking flies along with some more modern but still old looking flies and lures. The front portion of the case has old paper and plastic envelope-pages that used to show the names and types of flies but they are very brittle and practically disentigrate at the touch. The flies on these pages also appear very brittle. One page has a date of October 1913. The pages are attached with heavy old metal rings. Attached in the back of the case are two felt pages with flies and lures on both sides. These appear to be more modern but still very old additions. I don't know anything about fly fishing so I don't know if these have much if any ... morevalue. I'll let you decide. I do believe these are only for display based on their age and brittleness. It is an alloy extendable gaff with rubber grip and is in very good used condition with some usage marks/tarnish(see clear picture to decide before bidding) It has a safety cover for the spike which is stamped Made in Great Britain and I believe is a Sharpes of Aberdeen model. Up for your consideration is a vintage Hardy Duplicated Mark II Fly Reel as shown. The plastic handle on this is old and significantly worn as shown in photo 5. The reel makes a nice clicking noise when its turned but the handle seems to tighten up and lock up when you turn it. If you reverse direction. The handle feels like its loosening up. This reel would need some touch-up work to be useable, but seems quite restorable. I've included 12 photos for your inspection. Thanks.

I could not find a name on the metal case(measures 6 1/2" by 4" but it sure is a beautiful vintage example of fly fishing items. Each section. 16 in total, is hinged with a lid to ensure the flies don't fall out at any given time. Very neat piece, feel free to email with any questions.

Normal 0 Here is a nice set of pheasant hoppers tied by Jack Gartside. I have had them in my collection for many many years. There are 8 flies on what appears to be two different hook sizes(not sure on the actual size) The bigger ones are about an inch in length and the smaller ones about ¾ of an inch. The Gartside Pheasant Hopper was one of Jacks best known original patterns. The flies have a yellow bucktail tail.Yellow body with palmered hackle, a hackle collar under a pheasant body feather and a trimmed deer hair head. A really handsome fly. Flies come in the original 3 ½” x 2 ½” x 7/8” plastic case as shipped by Jack at the time. Jacks flies have been featured in many books including Eric Leiser's Book of Fly Patterns. Lot of two old F B POTT Missoula Montana Lady Mite Flies on original cards. Fyi. Mr FB Pott was considered the father of North American Fly Tying by many as his attention to detail was exceptional. This pair is the hard to find size#12 Lady Mite flies. Both cards are good to excellent with one showing a bit more color fading although both would be suitable for adding to any collection. Art was a very well known fly tier and conservationist, that frequented the Schoharia Creek. In the early 1940's he was cajoled into laying his fly rod aside in order to collect data for his little book"Streamside Guide to Naturals and their Imitations. This book is probably the best book, to learn the ways of eastern trout stream insects, in that it simplifies the number of flies that one needs to know, in order to become successful on our rivers. Warren had a remarkable talent for commercial fly dressing and was the fastest dresser I had ever seen and in my opinion was also the finest hairwing Atlantic salmon fly dresser that ever lived. In 40 years, I have yet to meet his equal. His flies are perfect examples of neatness and order and I have never heard of any of his flies unraveling or falling apart. Duncan died in 2007 but as long as there are samples of his work to inspire future generations. He will never be forgotten. Owning a sample or two of Duncan’s flies to study and use as a model for your own tying would be of significant importance.
